A Bush appointee was tragically struck and killed in a car accident outside a federal courthouse in Nevada, according to police reports.

 

U.S. District Court Judge Larry Hicks, nominated by President George W. Bush in 2001, met a tragic end in Nevada, as officials have confirmed. "Today's revelation about the esteemed Judge Larry R. Hicks, who dedicated over 53 years of service to Nevada, is deeply saddening," stated Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam in a post on X. The Reno Police Department and the Washoe Sheriff's Department corroborated that Hicks was struck and fatally injured by a vehicle outside the downtown Reno federal courthouse at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

The 80-year-old was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to law enforcement. Officials stated that the driver responsible remained at the scene and is actively assisting with the ongoing investigation. Judge Hicks embarked on his legal journey in 1968, commencing as a prosecutor in Nevada and later assuming the role of District Attorney from 1974 to 1978. Transitioning to private practice in 1978, Hicks eventually ascended to the position of U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Nevada following his appointment by President George W. Bush. In reflecting on his legacy, Judge Hicks remarked, "My greatest joy in life is my family." His ethos revolved around maintaining equilibrium among family, profession, and personal well-being, as noted by Balaam.
