During the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on Thursday, May 23, 2024, Chris Hemsworth received a star in recognition of his contributions to the entertainment industry. In a light-hearted tribute, Robert Downey Jr. took the stage to honor his friend's latest achievement.
Both actors shared the screen in several Marvel movies, notably the "Avengers" series, portraying Thor and Iron Man, respectively, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While initially expressing admiration for Hemsworth's latest film "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga," Downey Jr. playfully shifted gears in his speech.
Setting the stage for the roast, Downey Jr. declared, 'Now it's time for some fun.' His comedic routine centered around "The Avengers," as he humorously relayed reaching out to his fellow superhero colleagues, soliciting three-word descriptions of Hemsworth.
First up, [Jeremy] Renner quipped, 'Absurdly annoyingly amazing.' [Mark] Ruffalo chimed in with a hearty 'Friend from work,' while Scarlett [Johansson] offered the succinct 'sensitive leading lady.' And then, from Captain America himself, [Chris Evans], the verdict: 'Second-best Chris.'
For his own three-word description of his longtime friend and co-star, Downey Jr. opted for "Hollywood star recipient."
Hemsworth's family, including his wife Elsa Pataky and their three children, were among the attendees at his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.
During his own speech, Hemsworth gave a sweet shout-out to his wife, who is also in the new "Furiosa" movie.
"I want to say thank you to my beautiful wife, who has been here for my entire career basically by my side, endlessly encouraging and supportive," he said. "And it doesn't get lost on me that she put aside her own dreams in order to support mine and, again, [I am] forever in your debt."
"The fact [is] that nothing that I do, any of these moments, these special occasions and events, none of it is special without you by my side. I love you."
